Welcome to the Town of Mountain City. Our town is a great place to live and to work. It has a reputation of being very friendly and many volunteers come together to meet the needs of our seniors, children, and youth.
This year we have been working hard to improve services for our town residents and businesses, and the many water customers we serve. We have installed new software with better bill payment features, so you can view your water account and make automated payments online or via phone, or of course, in person. This software has helped to improve our department efficiency with recordkeeping and it is easier to navigate all the programs we use daily. We are also working on upgrading our computer network and address our physical and cyber security needs and look forward to the installation of our new phone system.
Our Town of Mountain City Police Department works daily to keep our neighborhoods safe, keep drugs of the street and assist the community. Our officers also enforce our municipal code and works with property owners to help them understand our code.
We are also proud of our Community Center and Animal Shelter for all the good work they do every day to support the residents of our town.
Our Parks and Recreation Department has worked hard to open and mainain our swimming pool at Cunningham Park. This will be the third year it has been open since the pandemic. I also commend Hometown Service Coalition for all the funds they have raised and dedicated to uprgrading the playround equipment at Cunningham Park and Ralph Stout Park, as well as the skate park at Ralph Stout Park.
We are excited to be awarded a CDBG grant for additional improvements at Ralph Stout Park, to construct a new bathroom and to improve drainage on the multipurpose field for football or soccer. We have installed additional lighting around our walking trail so it can be enjoyed 24/7. We have also been awarded TN Department of Transportation grant to replace redlights at four major intersections, with more to come next year. These will have the latest technology and should improve traffic flow.
Our Water and Wastewater Departments continue to benefit from several different grants, and we look forward to completing many planned projects this year. We are working to obtain to state revolving loans to fund additional improvements throughout our water and sewer systems.
Through another recent grant, we recently installed two electric vehicle charges for public use at City Hall and we look forward to serving residents and visitors with our EV charging stations.
